Queen of Heaven Parish Senior Program Spiritual Advisor - Deacon Pilar García
If you recently retired and are asking yourself, “Now what?” Or if for whatever reason you miss the interaction of conversation and camaraderie with others, perhaps Queen of Heaven parish’s Senior Program has an answer to your dilemma. Here’s a group of Seniors who meet weekly for spiritual enhancement and companionship and you are invited.
The gatherings take place every Tuesday morning, starting at 9:30 with Eucharistic Service at Queen of Heaven Church. When a Deacon is not available the group prays the Rosary. Then it’s over to the parish hall for a time of sharing and enjoyment. Coffee/refreshments are always handy, but mainly, it is a time to broaden friendships and getting to know one another better.
Some holidays, special occasions and feasts are celebrated with potlucks. Volunteer chefs - from among the members - provide delicious snacks and meals for these special events. At other times, recreational and informational tours take place. The Seniors will make day-trips to interesting sites, such as El Santuario de Chimayó, El Rancho de Las Golondrinas in Santa Fe or fieldtrips to other places of interest. Birthdays and anniversaries are always acknowledged.
In short, it is a program for Seniors to grow spiritually, socialize, meet new friends and participate in various activities. If transportation is a problem, carpools are available and rides for the “homebound,” can be arranged.
Best of all, the Senior Program is open and free to all; there are no dues. Younger generations are asked to encourage their parents, grandparents and all family elders to join the Queen of Heaven Senior Program. For questions or more information, please contact Deacon Pilar Garcia at 505-884-3922
